【摘要】:Thispracticeisapplicabletosamplingliquidwastesandotherstratifiedliquids.TheCOLIWASAisusedtoobtainaverticalcolumnofliquidrepresentinganaccuratecross-sectionofthesampledmaterial.Toobtainarepresentativesampleofstratifiedliquids,theCOLIWASAshouldbeopenatbothendssothatmaterialflowsthroughitasitisslowlyloweredtothedesiredsamplingdepth.TheCOLIWASAmustnotbeloweredwiththestopperinplace.Openingthestopperafterthetubeissubmergedwillcausematerialtoflowinfromthebottomlayeronly,resultingingrossover-representationofthatlayer.Thispracticeistobeusedbypersonnelacquiringsamples.ThispracticeshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithGuideD4687whichcoverssamplingplans,safety,QA,preservation,decontamination,labelingandchain-of-custodyprocedures;PracticeD5088whichcoversdecontaminationoffieldequipmentusedatwastesites;PracticeD5283whichcoversprojectspecificationsandpracticesforenvironmentalfieldoperations,andPracticeD5743whichcoversdrumsampling..1.1Thispracticedescribestheprocedureforsamplingliquidswiththecompositeliquidwastesampler,or"COLIWASA."TheCOLIWASAisanappropriatedeviceforobtainingarepresentativesamplefromstratifiedorunstratifiedliquids.Itsmostcommonuseisforsamplingcontainerizedliquids,suchastanks,barrels,anddrums.Itmayalsobeusedforpoolsandotheropenbodiesofstagnantliquid.Note18212;AlimitationoftheCOLIWASAisthatthestoppermechanismmaynotallowcollectionofapproximatelythebottominchofmaterial,dependingonconstructionofthestopper.1.2TheCOLIWASAshouldnotbeusedtosampleflowingormovingliquids.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
