【摘要】:Thepurposeofthisguideistoreportonthetestingof,todiscussandcomparethepropertiesof,andtoprovideguidelinesforthechoiceoflubricantsforprecisionrollingelementbearings(PREB).ThePREBare,forthepurposesofthisguide,meanttoincludebearingsofABEC5qualityandabove.ThisguidelimitsitsscopetooilsusedinPREBandistobefollowedbyasimilardocumenttoencompassgreasesusedinPREB.Thenumberoflubricants,bothoilsandgreases,usedinPREBincreaseddramaticallyfromtheearly1940stothemid1990s.Inthebeginningofthisperiod,petroleumproductsweretheonlywidelyavailablebasestocks.Later,syntheticlubricantsbecameavailableincludingsynthetichydrocarbons,esters,silicones,andfluorinatedmaterials,includingperfluorinatedethersandthefluorosilicones.ThisbroadspectrumoflubricantchoiceshasledtotheuseofalargenumberofdifferentlubricantsinPREBapplications.TheU.S.DepartmentofDefense,asauserofmanyPREB,hasseenasignificantincreaseinthelogisticseffortrequiredtosupporttheprocurementanddistributionoftheseitems.Inaddition,astimehaspassedsomeofthelubricantsusedincertainPREBarenolongeravailable.TheSRGSeries,LSO-26,andTeressoV-78areexamplesofsuchlubricants.Thisimpliesthatreplacementlubricantsmustbefoundas,inthiseraofextendingthelifetimeofDoDassets,stockpilesofreplacementpartsbecomedepleted.OneoftheprimarygoalsofthisstudywastotakeabroadspectrumofthelubricantsusedinPREBanddoacomprehensiveseriesoftestsontheminorderthattheirpropertiescouldbecomparedand,ifnecessary,potentialreplacementlubricantsidentified.ThisstudyisalsomeanttobeadesignguideforchoosinglubricantsforPREBapplications.Thisguiderepresentsacollectiveeffortofmanymembersofthiscommunitywhospanthespectrumfrombearingmanufacturers,originalequipmentmanufactures(OEMs),lubricantmanufacturersandsuppliers,procurementspecialists,andqualityassurancerepresentatives(QARs)fromDoDandendusersbothinsideandoutsideDoD.1.1Thisguideisatooltoaidinthechoiceofanoilforprecisionrollingelementbearingapplications.Therearetwoareaswherethisguideshouldhavethegreatestimpact:(1)whenalubricantisbeingchosenforanewbearingapplicationand(2)whenalubricantforabearinghastobereplacedbecausetheoriginallubricantspecifiedforthebearingcannolongerbeobtained.TheReport(Section5)containsaseriesoftestsperformedbythesamelaboratoryonawidevarietyofoilscommonlyusedinbearingapplicationstoallowcomparisonsofthosepropertiesoftheoilthatthecommitteethoughttobemostimportantwhenmakingachoiceoflubricant.Thisguidecontainsalistingofthepropertiesofoilsbychemicaltype,thatis,ester,silicone,andsoforth.Thisorganizationisnecessarysincetheoperationalrequirementsinaparticularbearingapplicationmaylimitthechoiceoflubricanttoaparticularchemicaltypeduetoitstemperaturestability,viscosityindexortemperature-vaporpressurecharacteristics,andsoforth.TheReportincludestheresultsoftestsontheoilsincludedinthisstudy.TheReportrecommendsreplacementlubricantsforthoseoilstestedthatarenolongeravailable.TheReportalsoincludesaglossaryoftermsusedindescribing/discussingthelubricationofprecisionandinstrumentbearings.TheReportpresentsadiscussionofelastohydrodynamiclubricationasappliedtorollingelementbearings.1.2Althoughothercompendiaoflubricantpropertieshavebeenpublished,forexample,theBardenProductStandard,LubricantsandtheNASALubricantHandbookfortheSpaceIndustry,nonehavecenteredtheirattentiononlubric......
